Valley View : Pubs, Restaurants, Food, Drink

A traditional bar, which is walker and dog friendly and a cosy lounge with a range of guest beers, open fire and lovely home cooked food with specials.  A smart and modern function room is good for larger groups and there is plenty of space.  They are more than happy to handle group bookings from the holiday cottage.  We have found them friendly and welcoming with great food, beer, wine and service.

Hartington is within walking distance of Valley View holiday cottage and it is a lovely walk north along the River Dove about two hours each way.  Hartington is a lovely village to visit and it has a cheese shop also selling local beers and English wines, with its situation overlooking the duck pond.  There is The Village Stores, which is a shop cum deli with coffee that you can enjoy on their outdoor terrace.  The Village Stores also makes fresh sandwiches to take away so it is a handy point to break a longer walk. There is plenty of parking in the centre of the village if you want to visit by car and stroll around.

Situated 2 miles north of Ashbourne on the main Ashbourne to Buxton Road and approximately 10 minutes by car from Milldale, this pub is well worth a visit.  A refurbished 17th century pub with real ales and good value home cooked bar food.  We would thoroughly recommend a visit and we now recommend this pub for group and family bookings.  If you need help finding a taxi please get in touch and we will help if we can.

An unspoilt characterful rural free house dating back to 1760 and the landlord is always welcoming.  Located in the wonderful scenery of the Manifold Valley it is within walking distance of Valley View holiday cottage and is very popular with walkers and cyclists.  The walk is about one to two hours each way so plan in advance.  Home cooked food and a selection of real ales.  Well worth a visit to sample a friendly, local Peak District pub.  Also dog friendly and there's a log fire.  There are plenty of walks in this and surrounding areas too.

The superb Manifold Inn is a delightful 200 year old coaching inn located close to Hartington at Hulme End providing warm hospitality with good fresh home cooked food. It is ideal for a longer walk from Valley View holiday cottage and you will get to see the lovely scenery of the upper Manifold Valley.  Allow about one and a half to two hours each way.  We've eaten a few times at this pub and would recommend it for larger groups and for family meals.  Do book in advance as it is popular and there is plenty of parking too if you wish to come by car.   Dogs allowed in the front area.
